Hello & welcome to another wonderful ESAD blog hop!
The theme of this blog hop is the fabulous Colour Your Season limited time only range from Stampin’ Up!
To keep things simple, I’ve chosen to highlight just the watercolour pencils today.
It’s no secret that I LOVE COLOURING….so as soon as Stampin’ Up! announced that they were offering a set of watercolour pencils in a new colour assortment I just knew that I HAD TO HAVE THEM!!
The new colour assortment has
- Cherry Cobbler,
- Flirty Flamingo,
- Cajun Craze,
- Crushed Curry,
- Granny Apple Green,
- Garden Green,
- Coastal Cabana,
- Balmy Blue,
- Night of Navy,
- Gorgeous Grape.
That’s a total of 10 exclusive Stampin’ Up! colours, that will perfectly coordinate with your ink pads & card stock colours.
I’ve made two full cards for today’s post, & a couple of extra card fronts, in case I need to create a card on short notice.
The first card features a pattern that I made using the guitar stamp from the Country Livin’ stamp set. As you can see I’ve chosen to highlight the beautiful Cherry Cobbler pencil from the new assortment along with the real red pencil & whisper white pencil from the original set.
Colouring Tip: To create some depth & vibrancy with these guitars, I decided to colour a light layer of Real Red underneath, before adding a darker layer of Cherry Cobbler over the top & then a final layer of Cherry Cobbler over the blackened lines for deeper shadows….I love how easily the Real Red & Cherry Cobber blended together 🙂
And here’s a quick look at the other two card fronts that I made…the pink guitars have been coloured using the Flirty Flamingo pencil, while the green guitars have been coloured using the Granny Apple Green pencil, both of which are also in the new Watercolour pencil assortment
Colouring Tip: If you want a nice smooth surface to colour on, try using some of the Shimmery White card stock from Stampin’ Up!. It has a subtle shimmer to it & is a lovely soft white colour, which doesn’t show smudge marks & grubby fingerprints as much as a brighter white cardstock would. I think the Shimmery White cardstock is a great basic to have on hand when learning how to colour, & it’s accessible price point makes it affordable to both beginners & experts alike.
Card number two would be fantastic for Father’s Day, (which isn’t too far away here in Australia). This card features the Pick Up Truck image from the Country Livin’ stamp set & has been coloured using seven (7) pencils from the new assortment pack: Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, Balmy Blue, Night of Navy & Gorgeous Grape.
Just in case you wanted more detail, here’s a closer look at the truck…
Colouring Tip: When I colour, I start out by using almost no pressure from my hand to apply a really light layer of colour. By starting out light, I can gradually add more colour & make adjustments along the way. If I went in heavy in the beginning, I’d have nowhere to go & find it almost impossible to make any changes. I’d also find it hard to add in shadows, & end up with a badly defined, overly dark image.
I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s projects, & are feeling inspired to create your own wonderful masterpiece. Next on the hop is the lovely Lauren Meiklejohn, you can click here to see what Lauren has created.
