Happy Friday!! Are you like me & love Fridays?
I think Friday’s are SO full of possibilities for the upcoming weekend, & they often bring lovely surprises.
My Friday surprise has been threefold….
1: I actually went to the gym for the 4th time this week! That’s a record for me…I’m the kinda girl that has a gym membership, but doesn’t use it as often as I should.
2: I managed to get an entire card made this afternoon & posted for a card making challenge :-)…I often make them, but run out of time to post them.
I really enjoy card making & scrapbooking challenges. They make me think in ways that I might not have & after an initial freak out about what I’m going to make, I always end up having fun.
3: I even had enough time to play outside with the adorable Miss Maggie….yes she’s being a bit naughty by trying to eat the washing, but I can’t stay mad at her sweet face for long.
Now let’s talk about the card making challenge…This card was inspired by the current Colour INKspiration challange #38. To fit within the guidelines I needed to use the following colours: Powder Pink, Berry Burst, Gray Granite, Whisper White & Basic Black.
And I have to admit that the pic, that the clever girls over on the Colour INKspiration team chose for this week, might’ve tipped the balance for me, because I’m a sucker for a great hot chocolate, especially if it has marshmallows, & some special adult only Mocha flavoured tequila in it…yum yum!!
While it would’ve been great to create my very own hot chocolate card, I decided to use the new Pop On By stamp set from Stampin’ Up! instead. Which is probably a good thing as I might’ve tried to consume it otherwise 😉
So because I wanted to make this sweet little cottage really feminine & pretty …. I decided that a pink front door was going to be my first port of call. To get this super soft shade I did a little bit of water colouring using Stampin’ Up! Powder Pink ink….(I also used it & the coordinating marker for the curtains/drapes)
The bright blossoms in the flower box have been coloured using Stampin’ Up! Berry Burst ink. While the body of the house has been water coloured using Gray Granite & the roof & flower box using a watercolour pencil in Basic Black.
I think water colouring is a super useful technique to learn, as you end up with so many colour variations from just one ink pad/ink refill. The possibilities become almost endless.
To finish off this cute card, I heat embossed the “Congraulations” sentiment from the Pop On By stamp set in white, on some Gray Granite card stock & added a little bit more Powder Pink with a sweet ribbon tab, & some sparkle with a few white iridescent sequins.
Top Tip: Sentiment stamps like “Congratulations” are always super useful to have in your stash as they can be used for all sorts of projects. In this case I could use this lovely card as either a congratulations on having a baby girl card, or as a congratulations on your new home card…
I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s card & blog post. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a good outcome in the challenge, but even if I don’t manage a place, I’ve had fun & I hope I’ve inspired you to create a little something this weekend.
