Beautiful Day – Pocket Card

Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Day with Katrina Duffell from Ink Paper Girl – Watercolour Pocket Card

Hello & Welcome back!! I’m so glad to be getting back into the swing of things again & I’m really looking forward to (hopefully) sharing my creations with you, on a more regular basis again.

So let’s start by talking about something exciting that happened a couple of months ago…..& no, it’s not the fact Miss Maggie joined our family….

Maggie our Golden Retriever Puppy at 3.5 months old

It’s that I was asked to join the AddINKtive design team!!! I have to say that I was so excited that I started jumping up & down. Being a member of a design team is something that I’ve dreamt about for a long time, so it was super special to be asked….AND what makes it even more exciting, is that as part of the AddINKtive design team I’ll be trying my best to venture outside my comfort zone & make more “interactive” cards, more often.

For my first AddINKtive design team post, I’ve chosen to create a pocket card using  the Beautiful Day stamp set from Stampin’ Up! You can get your hands the same pocket card tutorial that I used by clicking here. Then it’s simply a matter of following it or bringing your own flair by using a different stamp set or designer series pattern paper (DSP for short)…

Psst!!! There’s a great DSP sale happening right now..click here for all the details…You’ll need to HURRY though, because it ends on July 31st 2018.

Now because I was in an ultra feminine mood when I started this, I decided to create my own pretty paper by using one of my fave techniques called, No Lines Watercolouring.

Once I’d coloured all my pretty aqua butterflies using a combination of Soft Sea Foam, Mint Macaron, Pool Party & Coastal Cabana inks, I put the paper aside to let them dry & moved on to colouring a single pink/peach butterfly using Petal Pink, Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo & Calypso Coral inks for my focal point. I again it left to dry & then cut it out using my paper snips.

As you can see I added a lovely soft vellum butterfly to the centre of my butterfly, along with some soft pink pearls to create more interest. You can get the exact same look using the butterfly from the Springtime Impressions Dies & the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls, which are both available from Stampin’ Up!

Get the Look: Get a “No Lines” look to your water colouring by stamping your image using a light, complimentary coloured ink. I used Crumb Cake & stamped it off twice to get a really light image. You can then fill in the image using other colours just like I have. Because all 3 of my inks were water based, I was able to use an Aquapainter (water brush) to seamlessly blend them together. The end result is a “No Lines” water coloured image, that your family & friends will ooh & ah over

To keep with the pretty custom colour scheme theme, I used the same four ink colours from the pink/peach butterfly, & quickly brayered them in overlapping layers onto a piece of shimmery white cardstock. I then cut out the sweet “lace look” pattern using my Big Shot & one of the designs from the Delicate Lace Edgelits die set. There are 3 stunning designs in the set, & I have to admit that I was torn between 2 of them for quite a while, before finally settling on the “triangular” one.

Once it was cut out, I simply glued down a slightly smaller piece of the Shimmery White cardstock, making sure that I left a small border of the brayered cardstock around all four edges.

Top Tip: To help make sure that your butterflies are facing upwards, cut, score & punch your watercolour paper before stamping the images. I didn’t do that on my first attempt,  & it didn’t turn out quite how I thought it would lol!

To make the belly band, I watercolour washed an off cut of watercolour paper, then added a narrow band of vellum & some of the lovely Petal Pink woven Metallic Ribbon from the Metallic Ribbon Combo pack.

I think this would make a lovely card for a young girl or a STUNNING INVITATION…as you can run the shimmery white cardstock through most printers to add any text/wording, before gluing it down to the coloured backing layer.
