Party Panda meets Brusho

Stampin’ Up! Party Pandas with Brusho background

Hello & Happy New Year to  you!! I hope you had a lovely Christmas & were able to spend some time with family & friends. Christmas Day was a quite one for me this year, as it was just my husband, our 2 boys & myself. That’s not a bad thing though, as someone who’s always had pretty busy Christmas days I really cherish the quieter ones.

After Christmas we spent a few days at my parents house down on the South Coast of New South Wales. We had beautiful weather & really enjoyed passing the time by going to the beach with my sister & her family. Now for those of who don’t know, my sister has 2 little girls who just happen to be right into craft at the moment. This is is great for me, as I really enjoy sitting down with them & helping them learn & make new things. Watching the girls play & create really emphasised just how more imaginative kids are when compared to us adults. Young children aren’t inhibited by the fear of getting something “wrong” or making a “mistake”, they freely experiment & try new things, doing whatever makes them happy, even if that is blue skin & rainbow hair.

So because I was thinking of the girls & their fearless creativity, I thought I’d try something new myself….enter Brusho Crystal Colour.

Have you heard of Brusho before? No…me either! I am however oh so glad that I know about them now though. Brusho Crystal Colours come as a very fine powder in sealed jars. They are a one-of-a-kind water-based paint medium, which is super-highly-pigmented, unpredictable and so much fun to play with. If you like to paint/colour in with watercolours or if you’re new to art and you want a very forgiving method of painting /colouring loose, expressive artwork, then Brusho could be the right match for you. Be warned that because the powder is very fine, it does have a tendency to travel to places you thought that it wouldn’t.

I’ve used 2 of the Brusho colours from the set, to create the lovely free flowing backgrounds for my Party Pandas birthday cards. You can find the Brusho Crystal Colour set on page 26 of the current Stampin’ Up! 2018 Occasions Catalogue.

How to Brusho: I spritzed plain tap water onto some watercolour paper & then gently tapped some Brusho’s Brillant Red & Gamboge onto the wet areas. After another good spritz of water & a couple of brush strokes from my Aqua Painters to encourage the colours to blend together, I left them alone to dry. Now the method I used is just one of many. If you’d like to see just how versatile & how much fun they can be, try doing either a google search or YouTube search, there are plenty of different ways of using them.

After creating these fun & vibrant backgrounds I knew that I had to do them justice by pairing them with the Party Pandas….These sweet guys are just adorable & as they are black & white you don’t need to do much, if any colouring in with them. I stamped my Party Pandas out using Memento Tuxedo Black ink & then lightly shaded their bodies with watercolour pencils. I also the watercolour pencils to fill in the party hat & balloon, & then smoothed my colouring out by using a blender pen, before cutting them out using a pair of paper snips.

Top Tip: The Party Panda stamp is FREE!! That’s right these fun little characters can be your’s for FREE when you place an order of $90 or more (before postage) during Sale-A-Bration.  If like me you just have to have these Party Pandas then make sure you place your order anytime between now & the end of Sale-A-Bration on March 31st 2018*.

To really up the celebratory feel of these cards, I adhered some pretty sequins, before using an assortment of Stampin’ Up! ribbons & trim to make each card just a little bit different from the rest.

So what have I done with all these cards? Well I’ve sent most them off in the post. Hopefully they’ll land in the letterboxes of my family, friends, team members & customers who celebrate their birthday’s in either January or February.
